FABLE: The Company Which Needed Two Break-Throughs

There was once a company which aimed to exploit the simultaneous emergence of two complementary new technologies - silicon compilers and direct write e-beam machines.

.

It would, it was envisaged, be a case of putting the net-list in one end and getting a chip out the other.

 

The company attracted some heavyweight investors including BAe and Philips.

 

But neither the compiler, not the direct writ e-beam machine, ever really worked properly.

 

MORAL: Getting one new technology to work is difficult - getting two to work is unlikely.
