'Compatibility during the change-over period from 405 lines to 625 lines television must be maintained, said Mr Norman Collins, ATV Chairman, when he talked to Electronics Weekly about ATV's recommendations to the Pilkington Committee'.

So starts a story in the April 12th 1961 issue of Electronics Weekly.

'Mr Collins added that the whole object of ATV is to bring about an early transfer from 405 lines to 625 lines in such a way as not to deprive anyone of receiving programmes.'

'Referring to the future possibilities of colour television, Mr Collins said that, while the public is not exactly clamouring for colour, ATV must make itself ready with experimental transmissions,' continued the story.

The story concluded: 'With the additional 625-line service, provision will be made for transmitting not less than one hour of colour television a day.'
