A copy of  a letter written to Fairchild's founding CEO Bob Noyce, by Richard Hodgson executive vice president of the Fairchild Camera and Instrument Corporation, is included in SPINOFF, the book written by Charlie Spock, former CEO of National Semiconductor. Here it is:

                                                                                                           '2 October 1957

'Mr. Robert Noyce

11645 Lundy Lane

Los Altos, California

'Dear Bob

Attached is a check for $3,000, as advance to you to cover the necessary expenditure in setting up the semi-conductor operation until such time as the Corporation is formally organized.

Please keep a record of the expenditures so that Fairchild Camera can eventually be reimbursed by the Fairchild Semi-conductor Corporation.

We have a sizeable quantity of surplus shop equipment which you might be able to use, so let me know your requirements.

The group will be interested to know that it appears possible to extend Fairchild's program on group life and medical insurance to your operation. I'll let you have the details later.

Best regards.

                                                                                    Sincerely,

                                                                                Richard Hodgson'
