Led by Japanese companies, the semiconductor industry adopted quality as a critical asset for growth and profit. Were it not for its excellence in quality, semiconductors could not facilitate the development of the ubiquoutous appliances that we enjoy today.
Vincent, that's an excellent point. It made a huge difference.
Take up of Taguchi philosophy of cost of quality, built in (in-line) quality and TQC. No doubt, other wise new (total) market penetration would not have been achieved, into critical areas particularly.
