'Industry standardisation on a 16-pin 4k RAM came one step closer last week with the announcement that Intel Corporation now has commercial availability of its 4096-bit dynamic MOS RAM (2104).'
So starts a story in Electronics Weekly's edition on October 8th 1975.
The story continues:
'Intel has been supplying sample 4k RAMs for several months following an agreement between Intel and Motorola to standardise on a 16-pin 4k memory.'
'As expected, the Intel 2104 has the same configuration as the Mostek MK4096. It features a worst case access time of 250ns to 350ns.'
The story concludes:
'The number of companies now either producing, or possibly planning, to make the 16-pin 4k RAMs stands at seven. They are: Fairchild, Mostek, Intel, Motorola, AMI, Western Digital, Electronic Arrays.'

Come on guys - I remember soldering 256 bit chips onto a board for a 6800 based system to make a 1kb memory card.
We used to dream about 4k ram chips.
