The Irrepressible Lee De Forest

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

Lee De Forest, inventor of the triode which made amplification of radio signals possible, was no shrinking violet.

He called his autobiography: 'Father of  Radio'. In all he was granted 180 US patents.

When he was 85 he went into hospital for cancer surgery.

While on the operating table, De Forest heard  a doctor say the tumour would be removed by electrodessication.

Not one to stay silent, even at such a juncture, De Forest piped up:

"I invented it in 1907."
