Good Luck Sean, Get Well Very Soon.

Very, very bad news to hear that Intel No.2 exec Sean Maloney had a stroke yesterday. But good news to hear that the prognosis is 'excellent'.

When Sean worked at Swindon he was someone who thought imaginatively and originally about the IC industry. I put it down to the Irish genes.

When he went to Santa Clara to be technical assistant to Intel's then CEO, Andy Grove, I sometimes wondered how that creative, lateral Irish thinking was reacting with Hungarian inventiveness and originality.

Shortly after Sean went to join Grove, I met up with him for dinner in Palo Alto.

"What are they saying about me in Swindon?" he asked.

"The truth?" I asked.

He nodded.

"They're saying you have a 24 hour a day, seven day a week opportunity to totally fuck up your career", I told him.

"No. It's not", responded Sean, "It's a wonderful opportunity."

And so it has proved to be.

Good luck Sean. Get well very soon.
