50 years ago, this year, a story in Electronics Weekly's edition of September 7th 1960 carried this headline. The sub-headline read: 'New British Factory Is World's Largest.'

The story runs:

'Printed Circuits Ltd announced today the opening of a fully automated factory at Boreham Wood. Built in association with Millett Levens Ltd, the plant has been specifically designed to produce printed circuits.'

'It is probably the largest and most modern of its type in the world. Production is expected to be increased twenty-fold with no increase in labour.'

'The factory results from the great increase in demand for printed circuits of high quality. It is equipped with completely automatic units for etching and anodising.'

'Handling by operators has been completely eliminated.'
