Thanks to iSuppli for this one - the figures for the Q1 2010 cellphone market based, not on value, but on the number of phones shipped.
The Top Ten mobile phones in Q1 2010 judged by unit shipments were:
Nokia 37
Samsung 22
LG 9
Sony Ericsson 3.6
RIM 3.6
Apple 3
ZTE 3
Motorola 3
Huawei 2
TCL-Alcatel 1.8

Ah disappointed. These are volume sales by company. When I saw the title I was hoping it was by model number - something I've failed to find to date.
David,
I'm not sure how they obtained these market share figures, but I doubt their veracity. The problem is that MTK is rumored to be shipping at a rate to deliver 500M units this year, additionally Spreadrum has ramped up their volume significantly. Combined these two chip producers must control over 40% of available sockets, however they would account for less than 15% of end unit sales (according to your figures, combined with known MTK customers)
I think the underlying problem is that the actual cell phone unit volume has increased but the new sources are being significantly under-counted, their products are targeted at BRIC markets and as such are much harder to track / quantify.
That's interesting Robert, thanks. I'm sure you're right. I don't think the market tracking mechanisms have caught up with the new reality.
