PRS For Music, which used to be called The Performing Rights Society, has been monitoring music use to collect royalties since the early 1990s. Part of its brief is to monitor karaoke usage. According to PRS For Music the most popular songs sung, over the years, by
Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
My Way - Frank Sinatra
I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor
Dancing Queen - Abba
Angels - Robbie Williams
Like a Virgin - Madonna
Summer Nights - John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John
I Should be So Lucky - Kylie Minogue

so which ones do you sing then ? :-)
I have experienced Mr Manners sing "I can't get no satisfaction" by The Rolling Stones in a local pub. It was.........interesting. And a little scary!
Steve you bastard - I was hoping to keep that quiet. I have to admit I have also sung it in Tokyo where, though I say it myself, I thought it went down rather well.
Mmmmm Maybe I had a different experience in Tokyo... I sang my favourite ("Kitaguni No Haru") there and received fulsome praise until I repeated it on a few too many visits and even the politest of Japanese started to cringe. [Say nothing about the other shared and strange karaoke experiences Mike! ;-) ]
Well yes Jon it's always difficult to tell with the Japanese because thery're so polite, but in my case I knew they were enjoying it because they were cracking their sides with laughter. It certainly wasn't any ability of mine at singing, which is rock-bottom zero. I was so awful they found it funny.
I thought I could safely claim to be the world's worst singer yet after performing "Hey Jude" once this guy came up to me on Ginza station and handed me his business card. On me looking very confused, he said "I saw you at Karaoke - very good"
Maybe Japanese singers are even worse :-)
Well Mike I think it's fair to say that most Japanese karaoke singers are pissed - which may affect the quality of their performance
