Transistor Prices Reduced To £4 10s.

Further reductions in the prices of their transistors are announced by Semiconductors Ltd. Types SA495 and SA496 are now at the former "100" price of £4 10s.

 

So, 50 years ago this year, starts a story in Electronics Weekly's edition of September 28th 1960.

The company state that these reductions are the result of improved manufacturing methods and the use of automation.

 

Other reductions will be announced within the next few months.

I don't go back that far, but do remember one headline from around a decade later: "TTL down in price to (under?) 10 shillings a gate" - this was for a 7400.
