Top 4 Hot Topics in 2007 –The Annual Measurement Matters Review of the Year

Ok – I know – it’s a bit grandiose for a blog that’s not been going for a year but this it is that time of year. So as well as writing next year’s business plan and going cap in hand for more budget, it’s also time to curl up with a good web browser and a hot cup of brown stuff from the drinks machine whilst we muse over the 4 hottest topics of 2007.

Of course this is my own totally biased personal selection – not the result of any straw poll or focus group - so please feel free to comment.

Oops I started a war!

I suppose subconsciously – I wanted to court controversy but I didn’t realise I would start a war. My recent thoughts about the iPhone, invention and illogicality obviously struck a nerve with Eric Starkloff automatedtestblog.jpg
– friend and fellow blogger. “Let the Blog Wars begin!” he writes – thus proving my point about logic or lack of it where the iPhone is concerned.

Why the iPhone is not a logical choice

I’ve tried not to, I’ve tried to avoid it, I’ve tried to think about something else – but I’m sorry – I can’t help myself. I thought I’d be able to resist the urge to blog about the iPhone but I can’t. I think what broke my resolve was reading that Time Magazine has named the iPhone the “invention of the year”.

I am an engineer... no really I am!

Engineers seem to have a built-in distrust of anyone with marketing in their job title. I know – I am an engineer… no really I am! Having spent nearly 20 years in this industry as a systems engineer, embedded hardware and software engineer, field engineer, technical trainer, it’s a bit dispiriting that being tagged as marketing for the last 4 years seems to have wiped out my credibility in the eyes of some.
