EcoDesign Directive - the next 3 years

Article 16 of the Eco-design of Energy using Products (EuP) Directive calls on the European Commission to establish a working plan which will set out a list of indicative products that will be considered as priority candidates for implementing measures over a 3 year period.

At the outset there were more than 600 EuPs that fell within the scope of the Directive. After several iterations a list of 57 EuPs was defined, including sub groups that were excluded from the first 19 preparatory studies. This was further broken down into a priority list of 34 - 25 priority A and 9 priority B products.

Product categories include, but are not exhaustive:
Data Networking
Transformers
Industrial tools
Electric and fossil fuelled heating equipment
Surgical equipment
Industrial and laboratory furnaces and ovens
Domestic equipment for clothes
Compressors
Welding machines
Sound and image processing equipment
Refrigerating equipment
Air conditioning systems and heat pumps
Electromechanical hand tools
Measuring transformers
Aerials, radars, radio navigation and control
Lifting, moving and loading equipment
Cashiers and ticketing machines
Sound processing machines, including radios
Other motors not covered in current categories
Lighting not covered in current categories
High energy diagnostic and healing equipment
Food production equipment
Vending machines for beverage
Ventilation equipment for underground infrastructures
Mowers
Boilers

From these reviews “implementing measures” will be published making recommendations on how to reduce power consumption.
Timescales for Implementing Measures could be around 2010-2012
