Future SVHCs in EEE

Of the twelve potential Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) currently awaiting submission of the necessary technical dossier according to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) website only one, as we understand it, is used in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE).

Di-isobutyl phthalate, which is a plasticiser, has been proposed by Germany. This is a popular alternative to DBP which is one of the seven substances under review for possible authorisation of use.

However, two others, with no current submission date can also be found in EEE.

Arsenic Salts, proposed by Norway is usually used as an intermediate but could include gallium arsenide, often used in ICs and LEDs. Austria has raised Tris (2-chloroethyl) phosphate as a potential SVHC. This is a flame retardant used in polyurethane and some other polymers.

Also on the ECHA list are several anthracene based materials and some coal tar based materials which, as we understand it, are not used in EEE.
