WiMAX, Mobile TV and 45nm to go big in 2008

Check out our look ahead to hot technologies in 2008 - how WiMAX, Mobile TV and 45nm are set to go big this year.

The editor of Electronics Weekly, Richard Wilson, considers the important technology drivers for 2008.

WiMAX, for example. According to one supplier, Motorola, it is now "set to become a mainstream broadband wireless technology at least two years ahead of other alternative technologies".

45nm CMOS will move into volume production in 2008. But significantly it is not just the processor giants Intel and AMD which will drive the next generation of process technology in to the market. None other than Qualcomm has announced that it has made the first phone call on a 3G chip manufactured with 45nm process technology.

And it seems that with any luck Europe will have effectively a single mobile TV standard in place early next year, via DVB-H.
