Nixie tubes were new to me, but from these old components Hans has fashioned this month's highlighted Gadget Freak, winning him £250.See Hans' Nixie clock takes a step back in time
Originally painted red, the coating from the 4-inch high tubes were painstakingly removed using a craft knife. Using a plain matrix board and wire connections, Hans built the circuit on three boards.
"The total cost of the electronic parts for this circuit (excluding the nixies) was under UK £10," says Hans. "Of course, the nixies are very expensive, and the materials for the cabinet."
