It seems like streetlight buyers are sacrificing efficiency by specifying white LEDs with high colour rendering index (CRI) - scroll way down to 'CRI: an obsession'
Which is odd, because one of the reasons for moving to LEDs is to increase efficiency, and streetlights are pretty efficient already, so you have to work pretty hard to beat them.
As an aside, I wonder if it would be even more efficient to replace them with green LEDs to match up with the dark-adapted eye?
or would drivers then run over folk wearing dark red or violet clothing?
I just checked, green Cree XR-E LEDs not as efficient as the white ones.
But are those figures measured with a dark-adapter eye, or in cone vision?
