The results are in. You - the Made By Monkeys readership - have decided....

With reference to the Car Key Fob Failure post, we asked you to ponder what exactly went wrong.

We wrote:
We recently highlighted a Mercedes key fob failure - please see Key Fob fails for surface mount leads - and lots of pics of the problem are available for inspection. We've identified seven possible causes of failure, but what are your thoughts? Multiple answers are possible, and feel free to suggest Other causes.
Well, here are the results of your deliberations:

As you can see, 11% opted to specify their won answer, via the 'Other' category. These were:
  • Incorrect mechanical design for application
  • bad joint caused by reflow not hot enough or long enough
  • leads corroded or contaminated before soldering
  • Pads not wide enough
  • wrong component selected
  • Mercedes money making ploy!
  • assembly process failure, bad joints/materials
  • incompetence of designers
  • Mech stress, insufficient heat and poorly fluxed/cleaned switch legsin soldering
  • smd component should be through hole

We had 132 responses at the time of writing, so thank you to all who took part.
