Twelve-volt kitchen appliances, including toaster ovens, microwave ovens, coffeemakers and blenders, have been available for years. Of course, they are not really made for in-car use. Rather, they are intended for use by long-haul truckers when stopped for the night, and also find favor with RVers, etc. Visit the travel store of a decent truckstop on an interstate highway, or a good RV center, and you will find a great assortment of useful things designed for 12 volt vehicle power, some of which you might never have imagined. I'm not sure why the author had visions of this being used while driving, but if you've ever had a tailgate party or picnic where fires are not allowed, you know exactly what this appliance is good for.

A long haul trucker might find a 24V appliance more useful...... at least in a UK truck.

Otherwise I would agree wholeheartedly with Eric's comment!

How many pizzas will it cook before it flattens the car battery? Then not only are you stuck (unable to restart the car), you have to eat cold food!

Some people have mobile motor homes and camper vans. These vehicles typically only provide 12V sockets for appliances. I guess you did not consider these kinds of applications when you poked fun at the idea. I think a small kitchen in one of these vehicles, when appropriately parked up, would welcome a small oven that runs from 12V.

I am on a slightly sticky wicket here, I know - an oven could conceivably be useful in a car, but I was genuinely reminded of The Simpsons (a shame I couldn't find the episode to link to).

Tailgate parties? They're not really a UK phenomenon, but I can easily imagine someone in the UK taking the product description too literally and cooking while driving.

Also, surely you are never that far from a Domino-type establishment on the generic-UK-high-street® ?
