Recall Corner is no respecter of brand or reputation, as evinced by the expensive and luxurious 458 Italia sports car - which costs around $250,000 - now reversing edgily into the aforesaid corner...It is the threat of the models catching fire that has sparked the recall.
Ferrari has said its engineers are investigating five reports of "thermal incidents", reports the BBC. As a result, more than 1,200 vehicles are being called in for modification work.
The BBC states:
Ferrari said the problem had been traced to adhesive used in the wheel-arch assemblies. Those unlucky first few owners who suffered fire damage will apparently receive a new model. All remaining owners will have their cars modified to replace the adhesive with mechanical fasteners.
In certain circumstances, the glue can begin to overheat, smoke and even catch fire, a spokesman told BBC News.
In extreme cases, the melting of the adhesive can lead the heat shield - the liner which protects the engine - to deform and move closer to the exhaust, causing the lining to catch fire.
Ferrari describes the model thus:
The Ferrari 458 Italia, launched at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show 2009, is an 8-cylinder two-seater berlinetta with a mid-rear mounted engine, and represents a genuine break with the past in terms of Maranello's previous high-performance sports cars.Previous Recall Corners:
