I went back to the storeThey gave me four more
The guy told me at the door
It's a piece of crap!
[Neil Young - Piece of Crap]
Let's hope you didn't get any of these gadgets in your Christmas stocking. Watching an episode of the BBC's Rip Off Britain over the holiday, they listed five particularly useless bits of technology.
It was like a gift-wrapped I Can't Believe Someone Makes..., the series of "electronic landfill" (© reader comment from AndyRem)...
Here were their Top Five:
5. Solar-powered mobile charger (Many days charging required for very little charge, was the charge...)
4. Satellite detector (It will never help with the matter of TV tuning, they claim)
3. Water temperature detector (A bit harsh maybe, for the device that simply glows blue for cold water and red for hot. Simply feel the water, they objected, overlooking the aesthetic niceties. See picture above.)
2. Water mellon cooler (The interface where decadence meets redundancy, I think. How about an Armadillo Breadbin, anyone?)
1. Rocket powered Christmas tree (Tongue in cheek this one. See below. I would challenge you to find this for sale.)
What would you add to this list? Leave a comment below.

How about the Nokia X6? - Mine is on its third plastic back plate, the sides are falling off and it freezes all the time, needs severe re-sets including removing the battery sometimes! Oh, did I mention it is only 6 months old...

Oh dear, Chris. I would think you had been unluiucky, with a Nokia, but maybe we should open it up and see if others have hit this as well.

I and my wife have Nokia X6's. My wifes has locked up once, mine never. I have mine in a case to protect from shocks so it cant fall apart, my wife uses a 'Gorilla' bag. The latest software was meant in part to address lock up problems. Maybe we are not the 'right' sort of user?!
