What’s wrong with Lithium-Ion batteries?

Following Nokia’s recent announcement stating it was recalling no less than 46 million Nokia-branded lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries, Made by Monkeys Editor Karen Field took a closer look at finding out exactly why they have a lifespan shorter than an ex-Big Brother contestant’s fifteen minutes of fame.

It’s not as if Li-ion batteries are the new kids on the block; Sony brought them out into the world in 1990. So why is this technology failing now?
