Among the almost infinite depths of YouTube's online video archives I stumbled across this intriguing, if not slightly bizarre, video.
As part of Nvidia's August 2008 Nvision show in San Jose, Mythbuster scientists Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman came up with a remarkable presentation, which concluded with the demonstration of a multiple barrelled paintball gun painting the picture of the globally familiar Mona Lisa in 80ms!
Although the image created showed a somewhat simplified version of the Da Vinci masterpiece, Nvidia's presentation clearly makes an impact in demonstrating the difference between CPU and GPU processor technology and one can't help but wonder whether the whole spectacle was devised as a genius plan to take a well concealed shot at processor giants, Intel!
This is how the Nvidia blog described the event:
"After all the awards were handed out at the closing ceremony, Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman, as seen on TV's MythBusters, came on stage to give a demonstration of how a GPU differs from a CPU. And in true MythBuster's style they did it with a combination of robotics, devices that would make Rube Goldberg envious, and things that go "boom" (in this case, paintball guns)."Tom Wilson

What does this prove? If you have that many barrels to fire the paint you could do it with an 8bit micro at the end of each barrel.

In fact one decent micro could drive the whole shebang.
