It's time again for a Gadget-of-the-Week roundup.
Stepping straight past the Octopus USB hub (each tentacle is a USB connector, geddit?), I'll also ignore the indoor fireworks video system. More intersting is the Kerchoonz K-box that turns a hard surface into a sound system, removing the need for speakers. Writes Slashgear.com:
Moving on, there is no avoiding iPod docks this week, with no less than three hoving into view (pictured below).Stepping straight past the Octopus USB hub (each tentacle is a USB connector, geddit?), I'll also ignore the indoor fireworks video system. More intersting is the Kerchoonz K-box that turns a hard surface into a sound system, removing the need for speakers. Writes Slashgear.com:
So, you just plug your iPod into the K-box using the 3.5mm audio jack and set it on a solid surface. As soon as you press play, the surface will resonate with sound and you'll get to hear the music just like that.
The Einstein Sound Master Photon Ball iPod dock is certainly a flashy, dynamic looker. And the Edifier iF500 iPod dock has a stately, elegant Zeppelin-like dignity. Finally, rather more prosaically, there is the NAS-Z200iR dock, which is of rather more interest because Apple's arch-rival Sony are the makers. It has an integrated CD player, USB ports and an audio in port, reports Coated.com, which states the device will be available in September.
But now we are coming to the more heavyweight-contenders for the title of Gadget-of-the-Week. There is the 5-inch Android-powered Archos Internet Media Tablet expected to arrive in September, according to Engadget. Or how about the Marvell sheevaplug computer, which has been extensively featured on this site, now seeing UK availability? Or how about the Asus Eee PC's getting an extesnion to their colour range, according to SlashGear.com, with blue, pink, ruby red and sapphire blue options coming to the Asus netbooks near you?
The most eye-catching gadget for me, however, is the new Elonex 6-inch eBook reader that will be available through Borders UK.
Costing £189, it will support Borders' eBook Download Store and features a 4GB expansion card with room for 8,000 ebooks, reports Engadget.
But take a look at the iPod docks...
