A good one for a Friday afternoon - 'Murata Boy' in action, one of the highlights from the show floor of Electronica 2008. We've highlighted it as part of our Electronica Roundup, but it's worthy of a post to itself on Gadget Master, I think.
If you couldn't catch the demonstration of sensor technology in motion, as the robot balances his bike along a narrow rail, check out our seven minute video of the cycling action.
Watch Murata's compact combination of control circuits, sensors and software manoeuvre across the s-curve balance beam. The demo includes wireless control of the cycling robot by an Apple iPod.
Two gyro sensors under the cycle seat detect minute movements to correct slanting angles, and the device generates a correcting force to counteract the imbalance. Shock sensors also detect bumps in the cycling surface and ultra sonic sensors anticipate objects in the way. Impressive.
