At this time of year the Gadget-pickings get slimmer. The harvesting of new releases resembles a stumble through hot dry desert-like landscapes. But even in the barren heat of mid-August there are oases of notable consumer electronics...How about a set of the world's most expensive speakers, an LG watch phone, an electric chopper motorbike or a very mini boom box?
- Let's start with those $2m envelope pushing speakers (if the envelope measures less than 37-feet wide). Made by Transmission Audio and apparently dubbed the Ne Plus Ultra, the system's channels consist of six 7-foot-tall panels, "with the smallest one on the outside handling the super high frequencies, two with high-frequency/midrange, one with a bank of twenty-four 8" woofers, and then two with ten 15" subwoofers each," reports dvice.com.
- Born to be Wild? But also green? How about an electric chopper (below). Thanks to Techeblog for this one, highlighting the bike from Orange County Choppers and Siemens which has a 27 horse power engine capable of a top speed of 100mph (requiring charging every 60 miles).
- Meanwhile, Orange France have launched the LG GD910 watch-phone (below), at a price of €899, reports Slashgear. As well as a 1.43-inch touchscreen and a camera for making video calls, there is also Bluetooth and HSDPA connectivity. More details here.
- And for those who like their joke gizmos, there are these mini boom box and guitar amp speakers, which apparently do function when connected to the MP3 player of your choice.

However, this week's selected Gadget-of-the-Week is Sony's snappily entitled bdp-cx7000es, also dubbed the Mega Disc Changer. The jukebox system holds a staggering 400 discs in one go. Does anyone actually own 400 Blu-ray disks, I wonder? Of course, the system is backwards-compatible for CDs and DVDs, too. Available in the States, it's listed at $1,900 on Amazon US.
