How do you hack a Vodka bottle? Well, we showed how to hack a calculator a couple of weeks ago and this time the challenge is for Medea Vodka bottles, which feature a scrolling blue LED display...
I don't believe this brand is on sale in the UK - tho I'm no vodka connoisseur - but it's an interesting post from Hackaday (via this Dutch site) challenging people to rise to the challenge. What follows is the official instructional video for programming the display.
Who would have thought it, eh? This is what technological progress looks like.

"Friends, it's up to us to repurpose this hardware. It can't be that difficult to hack into the programmable display and make it do your bidding. Our friend Google tells us that you can get your hands on this 750 milliliter bottle for about $40. That's around $25 more than a passable grade of Vodka sells for, a mere pittance for the challenge of cracking open the hardware for fun and profit."

Hmm, I wonder how much they paid them to run what's basically an advert for their overpriced vodka.
Smells too much like viral marketing for me!

Maybe I'm too naive, Jon. I never even thought of that. I don;t think it is... but viral isn't always bad. See these LED sheep, courtesy of Samsung.
