The Highway Electrical Association (HEA) has launched an LED tick logo to give clients, specifiers and purchasers confidence when considering highway electrical LED products, writes Steve Bush.
The logo has been created exclusively for HEA-HEMSA Members.
“The amount of confusing information which exists in the lighting sector in respect of LEDs, is disturbing,” said HEA CEO Gareth Pritchard. “Clients, particularly those in charge of public sector monies, need to be confident that they receive the quality of products they are expecting, which can be demonstrated with clear and auditable data, backed up by reputable organisations.”
HEA was formed by the amalgamation of ASLEC – the Association of Signals, Lighting and other Highway Electrical Contractors and HEMSA – the Highway Electrical Manufacturers and Suppliers Association in 2011.
The logo is intended to show customers that manufacturers, and organisations placing products on the market, understand and comply with all the requirements for the Specification of Highway Electrical LED Products, produced as a pan-industry initiative under the umbrella of the Lighting Liaison Group, said HEA, adding: “Importantly, they will have a recorded data trail that is audited through their ISO 14001 or 9001 accreditation, or where this does not exist, through the HEA-HEMSA biennial audit.”
The HEA-HEMSA Guidance for the Specification of Highway Electrical LED Products, currently in its 3rd issue, will be available free, said the organisation.
