June 2009 Archives

EW Live.jpgWith detailed and interesting presentations from Qualcomm, Intel, CSR and Agilent, everything is now wrapped up at Earls Court for the EW Design Conference.

A special thanks to all exhibitors and the presenters of the seminars, but thanks, too, to all who took the time to visit the show. We hope you found it useful and rewarding.

My filming duties may be over, in the presentation area, but please note we will be working to present the recordings online. There's a wealth of information on power management and wireless comms that we've captured, so we want to share that content with the widest possible audience.

They won't be appearing immediately, but as soon as is possible. Stay tuned!

evie car.jpgHCD are so proud to be associated with UK-based Electric Car Corporation, and their all-electric conversion of the Citroen C1, EV'IE, that they will be demonstrating the car on their stand at National Electronics Week.

The EV'IE is the first four seat all electric car to go on sale in the UK. It's capable of speeds of up to 60mph with a range of 60-70 miles.

During its development, HCD assisted ECC in the production of the Battery Monitoring System and various cable assemblies.

ARM director of program management, John Goodacre will deliver a keynote presentation on balancing high-performance and power efficiency at the Electronics Weekly Live 2009 design conference on Wednesday, 17 June 10:30am at Earl's Court 2, London.

Agilent Infiniium 9000 series scopes.jpgWhat could you do with more measurement capability in your scope? This is the question asked by Agilent who will be showing its new Agilent Infiniium 9000 series scopes on its stand, H59.

"If you're like most engineers, you never know what your next project will demand from you," writes Agilent. "You need an oscilloscope that can adapt to a wide variety of debug and test challenges. That's why we designed the new Agilent Infiniium 9000 series oscilloscopes to meet a full range of needs  -  it's engineered for broadest measurement capability."

The company identifies three main benefits:
vicor product.jpg
Vicor, Gold Sponsors of the show, will be highlighting a new addition of eight wide-input Micro DC-DC converters to its 28VDC input family.

These models have nominal output voltages ranging from 3.3 to 48VDC and a maximum power of 100W (50W at 3.3Vout and 5Vout, and 100W at 12, 15, 24, 28, 36 and 48Vout).

"These modules target either 12V or 24V applications, such as MIL-COTS or commercial battery systems in vehicles," says Vicor. "They also meet the European standard for electronic equipment used in rolling stock; EN50155, and can be used in a variety of vehicle or man-portable applications including lighting, communications, portable test equipment, display and control systems."

What could you do with more measurement capability in your scope? Find out with the new Agilent Infiniium 9000 series scopes on Agilent's stand H59 at Electronics Weekly Live, which takes place at Earls Court 2, June 16-18.

NEW Floorplan 090609 colour small.jpgJust to let you know, there is a new, colour co-ordinated online Floorplan for the show.

It means there is even less excuse not to come and visit the EW team in the main visitor hub at the very centre of the show!

Make sure you come and say hello! And did I mention the free internet pods and free wireless connection?

Thumbnail image for Bloodhound car from newsletter.jpgIs it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's Bloodhound SSC, and it's coming to NEW...

Led by Richard Noble who previously broke the World land speed record in the Thrust 2 jet car, the Bloodhound SSC is to be the fastest, most advanced and highest technology car ever built. Richard and his team are bringing a model of the car to the show, along with its EJ200 Eurofighter jet engine and exciting video footage of the SSC in action. There will be opportunities to meet team members and discuss the project which goes into build this autumn .

A few Bloodhound-related dates for your diary:

  • Tuesday 16th - Richard Noble will open the show with his highly anticipated keynote speech
  • Wednesday 17th - Dr. John Davis Bloodhound SSC Systems designer will deliver an exclusive presentation on the innovation behind Bloodhound SSC's systems and control
  • Thursday 19th - Holder of the World Land Speed Record and Bloodhound SSC driver Andy Green will be on stand signing autographs and taking questions

longbow.jpgPre-registration recommended for OEM engineers

Future Electronics, a global leader in electronics distribution, will be offering interactive "My-TechnologyAuthority" tutorials at EW Live for embedded MCU technology.

These 'live' interactive tutorials will help OEM design engineers gain insight into the functionality of the Longbow development board demonstrated with the following processor solutions:
•    Freescale MCF5227x
•    NXP LPC1766 - NXP's first M3 Cortex part

The available embedded MCU sessions, taking place on each day of the show will demonstrate the advantages of a modular development tool strategy as follows:
  1. Understand how interchangeable daughter card modules based on Future's micro-blox format can allow you to easily evaluate various 32-bit architectures.
  2. Learn how Future's evaluation tools can be used as full scale development platforms to aid product development and allow you to quickly and efficiently generate circuits and software for your end product once a processor has been selected.
Mean Well PSC-60 series open frame power supply.jpgEcopac will be showcasing its new Mean Well PSC-60 open frame power supply with built-in battery charger at Electronics Weekly Live.

The charger facility allows for monitoring or battery backup related applications and, according to Ecopac, the PSC-60A will fully charge a 12V 15Ah battery and the PSC-60B will fully charge a 24V 7.5AH battery within 12 hours.

Ecopac states:
The PSC-60 series is supplied with full alarm signals including AC OK and battery low alarm and can be driven by any external DC voltage from 4 volts up to 50 volts with a 30mA maximum load. If the main power source is interrupted the PSC-60 switches to battery backup mode, a TTL signal will be sent out to a monitoring unit to warn of impending unit failure.
