Chat Up A Dummy

Ever taken a fancy to one of those tailors’ dummies in shop windows? Now you can talk to them.

House of Fraser in Aberdeen, Hawes & Curtis in London, and Bentalls in Kingston upon Thames have equipped shop window mannequins with VMBeacons from Iconeme which allow a shopper with the interactive Iconeme app on their smartphone to find out about the clothes being worn.

Stuff like price, on-line purchasing opportunities, where to find it in the store, sharing the info with a mate, accessories available, more detailed photos of the clothes on offer etc.

The beacons have a range of 50 metres.

  1. I went to this place called Zam Call in Croydon which is five or six minutes walk form our office, Mike, first they offered me a £15 battery then, when I said no, produced a £10 one. I have to say I couldn’t tell the difference.

  2. I’m amazed your high street store had it in stock. Usually they say “we can order it in” which of course implies you have to make another trip to the store to collect it. Much as I hate their ethics Amazon have done an excellent job in making products available ‘next day”.

  3. yes indeed AnotherDavid, have just paid a tenner on the High Street for a phone battery I could have had from amazon for £4 but I needed it in a hurry.

  4. Looks like another good reason to keep clear of shopping on the high street and stick to Amazon and Tesco!

  5. Yes well entering a shop and talking to the nice lady inside used to be an option, winux38, but these days shop assistants seem to be few and far bewtween and when tracked down profess ignorance of their wares – “sorry we don’t do/have/sell that” is the usual response. I’d really rather talk to a dummy.

  6. Well I’m not sure I agree, DontAgree, if this can develop into animatronic dummies which can walk around and wave to you as well as engage in a dialogue I think it would make shop windows quite an attraction – like the Rathaus-Glockenspiel in Munch or the pirate ship batttle outside Treasure Island in Los Vegas.

  7. and why not entering the shop talking to the nice ladyinside to get more information. it is surprising in this new era with all this technology dedicatd at communicating how people are less and less talking each others. I also predict for this useless inconeme dummies gadget

  8. Talk about solving real world problems …
Of course taking a picture and doing a Google search on it would get you also the prices and buy information from all the other merchants in the world selling the exact same thing … no special app needed and better results … I predict a rather short life for the Iconeme dummies
