Litigious Yanks

Last week Larry Ellison said he wanted to buy chip companies, this week he’s suing one.

After buying Sun, Oracle has resurrected earlier litigation Sun brought against DRAM makers for overcharging for DRAM.

Oracle is now going for Micron which did the American equivalent of turning Queen's Evidence in the  2002 US DoJ action against Micron, Hynix, Samsung, Elpida and Infineon which saw the last four companies get fined $731 million.

In return for its co-operation with the DoJ, Micron got off scot-free. Or so it thought until yesterday.

Now that the DRAM makers are stuffed with windfall profits, Oracle presumably sees an opportunity to go for one of the DRAM companies it hasn't sued before.

Litigious lot the Yanks.

  1. Wowee, Dr Bob, I shall treat your remarks with even greater respect in the future.

  2. Remote, up several generations, across and then down. The family keep quite about it due to shame – imagine having a relative who was a poacher.

  3. Your cousin was Shakespeare, Dr Bob?

  4. My estemed cousin N times removed had it right.
    Kill all the lawyers!

  5. I wish I could offer a defense, but I’m afraid I cannot. If Mr. Lincoln were writing his famous “Gettysburg Address” today, I fear his description would have to be changed from “government of the people, by the people, for the people” to “government of the lawyers, by the lawyers, for the lawyers”.
