Today Roaming Costs Less

Today roaming gets cheaper. Thanks to Neelie Kroes, roaming charges to make a call are capped at 15p per minute, receiving a call is 4pm a minute, texts 7p and mobile data can’t cost more than 16p per MB.

In Euros the charges are: €0.19 per minute to make a call, €0.05 per minute to receive calls, €0.06 to send a text and €0.20 per MB.

That has been brought down from yesterday’s levels of €0.24, €0.07, €0.08 and €0.45 respectively.

By the end of next year, Kroes plans to have abolished roaming charges altogether.

Kroes has been criticised for depriving the operators of income which they need to invest adequately in the networks, but the outrageously high charges which operators used to charge for roaming lost them all public sympathy.

  1. Maybe Putin’s chums own the network operator and he’s trying to do them a favour, SilverMan.

  2. I was in Kiev last week. Back here in the UK my 3-2-1 PAYG on three means I get 1MB for 1p.
In Kiev three’s preferred partner charges £6 for 1MB.
So when UKraine joins the EU they will reduce roaming charges by 600 times?
A lot of middle-men will loose their cut there matey.

  3. Yes indeed Dr Bob. I’m off to the Med on Saturday with my bucket and spade. Good old Neelie.

  4. Just in time for the holiday season! :-)

  5. Yes indeed Robtronics, if all the Euro politicians were like Angela Merkel and Neelie Kroes we’d all be EU enthusiasts. We want our elected pols to be on our side, not on the side of, or even worse in the pockets of, the bastards who want to screw us.

  6. Three and a bit cheers for the good old, sadly maligned and badly misused European Union.
