Missed this one at the end of last week, but just to flag... Google has officially released version 2.0 of its Android device platform, codenamed Éclair.

Highlights of the new version include a revamped graphics architecture (for better hardware acceleration), support for Bluetooth 2.1, and two new profiles (Object Push Profile (OPP) and Phone Book Access Profile (PBAP)). There are also new framework APIs.

This is on the technology side of things. There are a lot of changes in terms of support for user interface features. These include: support for multiple email accounts for synchronisation, support for MS Exchange, search functionality for all saved SMS and MMS messages, an updated virtual keyboard and improved browser support.

For a built-in camera, there is built-in flash support, digital zoom, scene mode, white balance, color effects, and a macro focus.

You can read full details of the platform on the Google website - http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-2.0-highlights.html
