Bluetooth just got x10 faster

Bluetooth over 802.11 WiFi radio links became a reality this week with the ratification of a new high speed Bluetooth standard called v3.0+HS.
Broadcom is a big supporter of the new Bluetooth v3.0 + HS (high speed) specification and its chips and associated software have been qualified as compliant with the standard.

Broadcom and over suppliers have been proposing forsome time that running Bluetooth over WiFi would provide a more practica; way to up the data rate.

This will support Bluetooth speeds up to 24Mbit/s or a 10 times increase in speed over the previous Bluetooth v2.1 + EDR (enhanced data rate) standard.

The standard defines Bluetooth profiles which are compatible with the higher speed 802.11 radio link.

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) announced the formal adoption of its next generation Bluetooth v3.0 + HS wireless connectivity technology at the SIG Annual All-Hands meeting in Tokyo.

"The new Bluetooth v3.0 + HS specification is a welcome step in the continuing evolution of Bluetooth technology, adding industry approved techniques for leveraging the high data rates of Wi-Fi," said Craig Ochikubo, v-p & general manager at Broadcom.

The Bluetooth products now qualified as compliant with the v3.0 + HS specification include the Broadcom BCM4325 802.11b/g combo chip.
