The opto component market has a new name, the Optoelectronics Company.

The Hertfordshire-based company will operate as a distributor of optoelectronic devices, initially offering visible/ IR VCSEL's and GaAs pin photo diodes from Korean manufacturer Optowell Co.

Behind the distributor are Tony Pope and Damon Cookman, the former founders of Photonic Products.

This was a company they took from a start-up to a £5m business and twice winning the Queens Awards for Enterprise.

"This is a very exciting new venture for Damon Cookman and myself," said managing director Tony Pope.

There have been better times to launch new a company. But Pope has confidence in his products.

"Current global economic conditions will ensure the first 12-18 months will be very challenging but we are confident that there remains a strong market for innovative optoelectronic products," said Pope.
