A surprise conference call from Intel involving Anand Chandrasekher, general manager of the chip firm's Ultra Mobility group has fuelled speculation that Intel is to announce a design- in with a big-name handset firm.
And the name in the frame is none other than Nokia.
Intel has invested a lot of time and money establishing itself in the market for mobile phone processors against competition from the likes of Qualcomm, TI and MediaTek.
A design-in for its Atom processor core with Nokia would be a major coup for Intel.
It is just two weeks since Intel announced its plan to buy Wind River, the reasoning behind that deal was to provide Intel with its own RTOS and a Linux-based mobile phone software platform.
There will be no comment from Intel before 4.30 UK time today.
