Obvious route not always the best in distribution

TDK-Lambda UK has demonstrated that a supplier does not always have to take the most obvious route to market.

The power supply manufacturer wants to target the test bench and has signed a distribution agreement with test and measurement specialist Aspen Electronics.

The test and measurement system supplier will sell TDK-Lambda's higher power products (300W and above), which include programmable, bulk and front-end power supplies. The markets are industrial ATE and laboratory applications.

According to Steve Read, sales manager at TDK-Lambda UK, it is Aspen Electronics' routes to the manufacturing, instrumentation, broadcast and mil/aero markets which are of interest to the power supply firm.

Neil Reynolds, product manager at Aspen Electronics said a big focus will be the programmable supplies. "Selecting the most suitable and reliable device for the task in hand is not trivial," says Reynolds.

The TDK Lambda/Aspen deal also tells us that selecting the right distributor is also a non-trivial task.
