Manufacturers get test system support from distributor

Amplicon has created a test systems division to address the need for specialist test system hardware such as PXI, Compact PCI, LXI and PC-based systems to support UK-based manufacturers.

Despite the contraction in the UK's manufacturing base over the last few years, Brighton-based Amplicon still sees demand for specialist test systems.

As test systems product manager, John Hayward comments: "Despite the decline in UK and European manufacturing we have found substantial demand for the supply of integrated hardware test solutions and we are now responding to that demand."

It seems likely that in the economic climate, the trend of out-sourcing non-critical functions has resulted in some companies reducing knowledge and manpower for implementing new test systems and upgrading existing lines.

In a recent application, the company supplied a PC-based test system which, according to Hayward, provided a saving of over £100,000 compared to in-house development at a major oil & gas instrumentation specialist.

"Our major challenge now is to communicate this capability to a fractious and un-ordered market," said Hayward.

As Amplicon's CEO, Gina Citroni points out the target is an important one.  "We hope to do our bit to help keep UK manufacturing alive."
