Steatite has won a supply contract worth in excess of £100,000 to supply batteries to the Ministry Of Defence.

The contract is for Electrochem size 2/5C, high rate lithium cells and will be fulfilled from Redditch-based Steatite's battery division which is Electrochem's channel partner in the UK.

"This is a very significant and important contract for us to win," says John Lavery, managing director at Steatite.

The high rate lithium 2/5C cells supplied for the new contract are housed in stainless steel containers and utilise advanced spiral wound technology and hermetic glass-to-metal sealing.

It is the lithium cells' wide operating temperature range of -20°C to +93°C which makes them suitable for use in military applications.

Steatite has annual sales of £8.9m.
