Farnell has upped the range of products in its catalogue which are aimed at automotive and transport system applications.
While the automotive sector has been hit hard by the economic downturn, the wider transporation sector, which includes rail, has been more resilient. As such it presents an important opportunity for component suppliers as they emerge from the recession.
"The key to future success for manufacturers lies in innovation so, despite the short-term challenges facing the transportation industry in general and automotive manufacturers in particular, this is the perfect time to increase our focus on this sector," said Jamie Furness, global head of strategy & community development.
The addition of over 800 new parts means that Farnell carries almost 4000 transportion system related products ranging from chips to LEDs.
Suppliers inlcude Altera, Analog Devices, Cree, Freescale Semiconductor and STMicroelectronics.
The distributor is also publishing in its Technology First Journal a number of articles and FAQs designed to help engineers working on applications as diverse as motorcycles and heavy agricultural vehicles are also included.
