Two bits of positive news for manufacturers.
UK exports in November rose to their highest level for more than a year, according to the Office for National Statistics.
Then came the news that the UK economy is finally emerging from recession, some months after Germany and France.
But we are still not quite there yet.
According to the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), the UK economy is on the "brink of leaving recession".
Most encouraging has been the improving trading conditions in the manufacturing sector.
According to the ONS, UK exports rose to £20.2bn in November driven by sales of consumer goods and chemicals.
That helped to narrow the UK's trade deficit with the rest of the world to £6.78bn, from £7.02bn in October 2009.
There was also good news from the high street, with like-for-like sales up 4.2% in December, according to the British Retail Consortium.
