Is this the first quadcore ARM processor?

Marvell is claiming to have created the world's first quadcore processor using the ARM instruction set.

I think NXP is another company working on a quadcore ARM chip.

So which four ARM cores are running together on the Marvell chip?

Well, it is based on the same CPU architecture as the ARMADA 500 processors and those use an ARM v7 CPU core running up to 1.2 GHz.

Is this significant? Yes, if ARM has any hope of growing its involvement in the multimedia chipset market, which is dominated by HDTV decoders and high end graphics engines.

As well as the performance of four 1.2GHz ARM processors there are also multiple vector floating point v3 units and 512KB L2 cache and 1080p video decode.
