Web-based design tools are now providing ready access to embedded system development and NXP's design initiative with ARM has launched a web-enabled development tool for the firm's LPC ARM processor family of microcontrollers.

The LPCXpresso design tool can be used by entry-level or advanced designers.

NXP is also working with ARM on a website to support prototyping of microcontroller-based systems. Called "mbed" the website will launch with hardware and software support for the NXP LPC1768 ARM Cortex-M3 processor-based MCU.

The LPCXpresso development platform features an Eclipse-based IDE with a newly designed user interface.

There is an optimised Cortex-M0 compiler and libraries, LPC-Link JTAG/SWD debug probe and target boards.

To mark the launch of the web tool NXP is presenting the LPC1100 Cortex-M0 Design Challenge for application developers.

NXP will be providing free LPCXpresso tools to all qualified contestants, as well as prizes for user feedback on the best LPCXpresso enhancement suggestions.
