Will the World Cup delay the digital TV switchover?

Will the World Cup delay the digital TV switchover? Apparently it can in Italy.

According to the digital TV association DGTVi, the World Cup in June will make it difficult for the timetable for analogue TV switch off in Northern Italy to run to schedule.

Local regional elections in Italy will also have an impact.

A decision could be made that June could not be the best time for the inevitable short-term upheaval which is inevitable with switchover.

So while everyone was assuming that the World Cup would provide a boost for high definition TV sales, there is always a downside and in Italy this could mean a delay to digital TV switchover plans.

I think somehow it will take something more than a World Cup to knock the UK's switchover plans off-course.

Maybe the General Election which has to happen before June.
