Farnell has set up a forum within its element14 online community to discuss issues around alternative energy technologies.

These include wind power generation, hydro power and solar energy.

It also includes newer technologies such as energy harvesting through vibration and thermal changes.

03mar10farnell.jpg"The electronics industry has a key role to play in the development of effective systems to support alternative energy generation and energy efficient design as a whole," says Lynn Ma, technical marketing manager in Europe for Farnell.

The discussion forum is part of the distributor's new approach to the alternative energy sector.

It is also adding over 1,000 new products targeted at applications in the area of energy system design.

Suppliers include leading industry names such as Microchip, STMicroelectronics and Tyco. There are also more specialist suppliers such as Advanced Linear Devices.
