Mobile World Congress opens in Barcelona next week and we all need a data survival kit to get through all the hype.

So thanks to the analysts at iSuppli for these useful, perhaps I mean vital, fast facts for anyone interested in the true significance of what companies will be saying in Barcelona next week.
Mobile market data

Global spending on wireless equipment and services surpassed $1 trillion for the first time ever in 2009.

The global cell phone market performed better than expected in 2009, with shipments declining by 6.7% to 1.14 billion units.

Global cell phone shipments are expected to grow by 12.1% in 2010.

Nokia leads the global cell phone market in the fourth quarter of 2009, accounting for 38.9% of global unit shipments, up from 37.4% in the third quarter.

The only other Top-5 cell-phone brand to gain share in the fourth quarter was Samsung.

Smartphones

Global smartphone shipments are expected to rise to 246.9 million units in 2010, up 12.1% from 2009.

In 2009, three smartphone makers had a double-digit share of the smart phone market: Nokia, RIM and Apple.

More than 20 smartphone OEMs are expected to support Android in 2010, up from four in 2009.

The Mac OS held a 14% share of smart phone unit shipments in 2009.

4G wireless infrastructure

The 4G market is expected to represent about 2.8% of total basestation revenues in 2010. This will grow to about 54% by 2013.
