Tektronix is the latest company to set-up an online community where users of its test systems will share information and take part in discussion forums.
There are a growing number of online forums and discussion groups across the industry cover a range of product types and design activities.
As yet there has been little interaction between the different communities.
In my view, as more companies create communities it can only be a matter of time before this starts to happen and then the real power of online discussion forums will be demonstrated.
The linking discussions between design, test and standards communities could unlock the real power of online forums for engineers.
Trust me it will happen, and probably sooner than any of us thought possible.

Dubbed Scope Central, the Tektronix website will also provide technical data and updates, in areas such as oscilloscope fundamentals, probing, signal integrity, jitter, power, high-speed buses, mainstream buses, and memory.
The website will be supported by a Twitter feed in the way that most online communities now operate.
Scope Central will deliver scheduled live events such as expert panels, live webinars, and Q&A sessions.
