STMicroelectronics has selected Arrow Electronics to be a focus distributor for its SPEAr embedded microprocessor family.

According to Andy King, v-p engineering and marketing of Arrow EMEA, the broadline distributor is increasing its focus on engineering support services and tools.

"We are pleased that ST has recognised this strength and has chosen Arrow as a partner for its SPEAr embedded processor family," said King.

Arrow is developing a SPEAr processor-based board as part of its Embedded Platform Concept (EPC).

The SPEAr processor is based on an ARM926EJ-S 333MHz processor core. Peripherals include Ethernet and USB Device/Host, I2C.

The SPEAr600 has dual ARM926EJ-S cores, and the recently-introduced SPEAr13xx utilises a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 600MHz.

"We are confident that partnering with Arrow will ensure that customers are able to realise their designs quickly and effectively through the support of Arrow's extensive European engineering services team," said Dr. Bernhard Rauscher, v-p of technical marketing for STMicroelectronics EMEA.
