Flat panel TV prices slip in US

Flat-panel TVs are selling in the US at to their lowest prices in eight months.

Despite interest in the use of PLC (OFDM) communication modules in smart electricity meters, IMS Research predicts that revenues from the sale of such meters will make up less than 4% of advanced electricity meter revenues in 2016.

Alan Jermyn, v-p European marketing at Avnet Abacus believes that true customer demand and EU legislation will dictate sales growth in the market next year, despite all that has happened in the global economy.

Semiconductor magnetic sensors will see their market expand by nearly 40% in 2012 due to their use in the automotive sector, according to a MEMS & Sensors special report on magnetic sensors from analyst IHS.

"While the average motorist isn't aware of this, each time he drives a car, he can make use of as many as 100 small motors, performing tasks ranging from enabling the power steering, to actuating the fans in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system," said Richard Dixon, senior analyst for MEMS & sensors at IHS.
