Start-up to watch: SiBeam

The Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA) has named SiBeam as its “Fabless Start-Up to Watch for 2007”.

It sounded like a painful task choosing the winner – “The GSA VC Advisory Board selected the winner of the Start-Up to Watch award with a formal process that involved an individual meeting with each of the nominees’ CEOs along with additional research to identify the fabless semiconductor company that demonstrated the potential to positively change its market or the semiconductor industry…”

SiBeam – self-styled SiBEAM, which is abusing the capital letter a little too much for me – broke the 60GHz chipset barrier in 2005 for non-line-of-sight applications built using standard CMOS manufacturing techniques.

But the firm only came out of stealth mode this June, with its OmniLink60TM wireless semiconductor technology. It is a non-line-of-sight beam steering and A/V connectivity technology for wireless applications in the 60GHz band.

After the GSA’s recommendation, we certainly will be watching them!
